Criteria for Open Space

The following acquisition criteria was developed, but is not limited to the following concepts:

  • Scenic / Visual Qualities
    Protection of water sources
  • Protection of woodlands, farmlands, endangered plant, animals and/or lands that contain potential ecosystems for educational or scientific value.
  • Preserving of the Township goals
  • Buffering zones
  • Geographic balance of open space within the Township
  • Linkage to surrounding green areas

The Plan Goals Are:

  • Retain rural character of the Township
  • Manage the pace and quality of future development
  • Protect key assets
  • Retain viable agriculture land usage
  • Provide viable and continuing strategy for preserving open space
  • Manage transportation demands and conflicts
  • Provide criteria and guidance for the future infrastructure
  • Provide protection of important environmental resources
  • Plan for recreational areas
  • Protect the geographic integrity

 

There are several sources of funding available for land acquisition:

  • State Agency grants
  • Groups such as Little Miami Incorporated and the Tecumseh Land Trust.
  • Donations of property
  • Possible minimal tax levy
  • Donations of development rights
  • The committee would also like to work in cooperation with the Bellbrook/Sugarcreek Park District.
